What the app does
WiFi2QR reads the name and password of the Wi-Fi network your device is connected to (using the operating system's own tools) and turns them into a QR code that appears on your screen. Anyone can scan that code with a phone camera to join the network. The password only ever exists inside the QR code you generate — it is never sent anywhere.
Data we collect
None. WiFi2QR has no backend and makes no network requests to us or to any third party. Nothing you enter or read is uploaded, logged, or retained by us. We cannot see your network name, your password, or that you use the app at all.
Device permissions
- macOS — the app requests Location access because macOS only reveals the current Wi-Fi network name to apps that have it. Your location is never read, stored, or transmitted; the permission is used solely to unlock the network name. The app reads the saved Wi-Fi password from your Keychain (with your approval).
- Windows — reads the current Wi-Fi profile through the operating system
(
netsh). - Linux — reads the current Wi-Fi connection through NetworkManager
(
nmcli). - Web version — runs 100% inside your browser tab; nothing leaves the page.
Third parties, cookies & analytics
There are none. No third-party services, no cookies, no telemetry, no advertising or tracking SDKs of any kind.
Children
WiFi2QR is a simple utility that collects no data and is safe for users of any age.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
